Echolink el 3020 problem

I had this issue initially used a usb to rs232 changed com1 port to com4 in the upgrade program clicked connect, switched the receiver off and on and all worked. make sure you have correct drivers for the rs232 bit as I had to install these as well "FDTI usb serial converter drivers"

i have the same cable usb to rs232, how do i know if my laptop have this rs232 driver so i can update using this cable.

to everyone trying to upgrade their echolink with usb to serial adapters, please note that you will continue to get error messages because i believe that it was not designed to work like that, try and use a desktop with a real com port or use any of those old laptops with a real com connection. echolink from my experience will not work with any virtual com port created from a usb to serial cable/adapetr.

I tried to update using rs232 cable with nine pins on both sides, but wont update,
how do i know if i am using a cross cable.

you might want to check the configuration for your cable as 5-5, 2-3 and 3-2, if you can get the connectors, soldiering the cables will not be a problem for you.

but after i inserted and updated the abracadabra card, the screen remains blank for scrambled channels. I used the 120209 update program.
did I do something wrong, please advise.

which brand of your USB-RS232 adapter / cable did you use? did you need any driver for that and where we can find it?
I tried using usb-RS232 cable but it didnot work, so i use a friends PC to update my software....

thanks for your comments, what type of cable(usb to rs232) are you using, is it straight connection or cross cable where in 2 is connected to 3 and 3 to 2 and 5 to 5.

what port did the system give you before you updated?

if you are updating the first time, upon inserting the card, press menu 2020 and click ok after the message that pops up.
