#2 is a story that keeps on being told as true (Maybe only gossip - I never heard about officially, so I´m not sure). But it gets told that the man died from his pure belief that it was icy cold, although it wasn´t - no leak in the frig pipes, just his own mind - marks on his body produced by the mind.
(Well, there really exists a man who does the opposite - he doesn´t freeze to death, running marathon at -60 oC only wearing briefs.)
Story #2 may as well be as untrue as the story about the person being bitten into his cheek by a spider, causing a big a boil that later burst open, releasing myriads of spider babies, where the man got stitched. But the "freezing to death in a warm refrigerator wagon story" needn´t be a hoax, although it very much sounds like one.
