VU Duo, are you happy with it?

Yes, I'm happy too (responding to the thread question).

My previous box was Dreambox 7000 - new VuDuo is much better. First thing which surprise me is how smoothly both tuners are working. I can record one program and watch another - max number of recordings I started successfully is 4. Theoretically I could have similar behavior (with one tuner limitation - inside one transponder) with my old D7000 but it was totally different. VuDuo operates very intuitive way.
There is few items I don't like: as within media player 'left' / 'right' buttons change volume - I expect previous / next positions on the playlist, many plugins presents 'dreambox' as box name (web-control, movies editor) but I think it would be corrected soon.

Perfect work for the box existing on market since 4 months. It seems to be obvious but look onto Qbox HD - over year on market and still many issues.
VuDuo box offers feature close to Dreambox 8000 (few even better - as newer processor) with half price - so this box has got the bright future. Many buyers - a lot of people interesting in evolution of this box.

Loving mine so far the HD picture is out of this world even when comparing it to my 800.

Trying all sorts of combinations but for multibooting 8000 images with the VTI image and BA ive found them unstable. I guess BA needs some tweaks and maybe the VU drivers before we can reliably boot those.

Ferret

Now just you ve got me interested.

I really do appreciate good picture quality.

Ferret,

Could you kindly explain little more and give it like screenshots just to compare how different HD picture is between two boxes?

I mean in more details : what is better: sharpness, colours ...?

Is it possible to compare it with some shots.

I ll really appreciate to see the difference before buying it.

Appreciate your help as always

Hi mate

What i will say is the HD picture is sharper than my 800s picture.

SD picture was a little worse but that was put right in the v4.3 official image.

Improve HDMI/Component video PQ(Picture Quality)
- Enhance deinterlacing algorithm.

Just one more step forward if not a hindrance for you...

Could you advise on which TV Channel/resolutions you have compared the sharpness and on which kind/resolution of TV device?

Thanks a lot for your support in name of all of us on this forum.

Yeah

I have a 47 inch LG 1080p LCD.

As all the UK HDTV is in 720p that is what i make the comparisons on. Say BBC HD and ITV HD.

You might want to consider meoboot in place of BA as it is less intrusive and very light also.

Hi mate

Yes your right i use the Dream Elite image and meoboot now.

If you look at the date of my post then you'll see Dream Elite and Meoboot were not available for the VU at that time. So BA was the only multiboot option then

Ok, say if I used the dream elite image, would I still not get the benefits of the above's 'upgrade' of better SD pic quality??? How would I get this benefit of SD pic quality AND use the dream elite?

Yes mate you would get the benifits as all Dream Elite image are based on the original which 4.3 . Latest Original version is 4.6 so my advice is wait a day or 2 till DE catch up.

The improvements in picture quality is there instantly but can be improved on further using the auto resolution and video enhancement setting in the system menu.

Yes, there are the plugins "CutListEditor" and "MovieCut". Once you've finished the editing you can apply the cuts which takes a few minutes in the background.

Please explain why the VU is in you mind terrible!

The updates do come quick that is a good sign and the sign of a new receiver and a well supported one.

When the DM800 was release that was terrible you could not even view HD channel without it locking.

I always buy receiver when they are first released and the VU is well infront at this stage then other similar over priced receivers :nana:

The performance of the VuPlus is equal or better than that of the Dream 8000 and paying the double prize just 'coz the Dream is looking better on the shelf... Not for me! :)
