Thank you @william-1 for this guide. Very informative.

If doesn't already exist, I wonder if the mods @barney115, @Ferret can set up a tutorial or
library section of the website where useful information like this can be stored and referred to
whenever posters and/or forum members need it?

PS: Just an FYI it would be great if someone could do a similar guide for C-band. I know it's
not as popular as KU, but still very interesting information in my opinion. Maybe @moonbase
and/or @barney115 would do this if time permits?

Do'nt have C-band so no options here to do that .
And its so easy to copy paste the above post in a link to the post in question just like this => William-1 Strongest TP'S guide

So no real need for opening any new sub sections or anything else when a simple copy/pasted link does the job perfectly well : )

@kippysat

I have no intention of creating a guide for C-Band reception in the UK, there is a specific section for C-Band and a dedicated topic for UK reception on the forum that covers this exact subject.

Here, it is the 1st topic in the list, did you bother to check?

My personal opinion is that a 1.8m dish is the very minimum size for half reasonable reception of C-Band in a UK location.
Anything smaller such as a 1.5m or as small as a 1.2m will get limited reception from some of the stronger satellites but the number of lockable frequencies will be greatly reduced.

For serious C-Band reception across most of the arc visible to the UK a 2.4m dish is needed.
Personally, I use a 2.0m dish which is OK but not ideal.

It really depends if there are any specific satellites that are required or if it is just general across the arc reception.

Thanks @moonbase. I'm not particularly great at searching and finding the specific posts that I find interesting, but I do try.

Any dish size recommendations for 7E sports feeds considering I get the following values with a 60cm dish? I'm curious if a tree might be slighly blocking the signal, although it seems like these are expected values?

Which country are you in? Feeds can be very difficult to tie down I have a 1.3 x 1.2 here and sometimes i cannot receive all feeds on 7e. I am in the northern part of the uk.

Pyrenees!
Ok you will need someone a little closer to your location to give you a better idea but at least we know your location now. Just a reference though on zagos tv here in the rain with the dish above i am currently getting 53% signal strength.

To be on the safe side and allow for rain fade it might be best to consider a 1.5m dish or a 1.8m dish if you can install one of these at your location.
The transmission power of feeds can vary and is dependent on broadcaster and uplink van so may change from event to event.

If you cannot source and install a 1.5m or 1.8m dish then at the very least you want to be looking for a 1.2m dish but you may find some feeds are missing from a 1.2m.

As regards the possible obstruction from a tree, if you are going to install a new dish, have you options to locate it elsewhere to avoid obstructions or get the dish more elevated from the ground?
Good luck with whatever you decide to install.

I have 8.3 db right now, on the Zagros TV channel (7 E) on a 90 cm dish and I catch a lot of Feeds. I also tell you, that with rain some of them pixelate me and I lose others.

The bigger the plate, the better, especially for Feeds. I think that for you a 1m or 1.20 cm antenna would be fine.

My location, Galicia.

Similar question, but for here in the south of the UK (Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire).

What is the minimum size to catch feeds on 7E?

Thanks.

Same reply as my previous one, 1.2m is absolute minimum to have reasonable hope for decent number of feeds in the UK.
A 1.5m or a 1.8m is preferred.
OK, thanks. That is a little bit of a surprise for me as I was hoping you would've said 1.0m. But hey ho.

You will get feeds from 7.0E with a 1.0m dish, no doubt about that.
The issue is how many will you be missing and have you any margin for rain fade?

It should not be difficult to source a 1.2m dish, there are used 1.2m Channel Master dishes sometimes listed on eBay and Facebook.
It's not as though they are difficult to install and a used 1.2m Channel Master dish will do a decent job.

However, with dishes, if it's big it must be good, if you're gonna have one have a big 'un.

I've a 1.3 x 1.2 that i have ground mounted onto a technomate 2600 motor. I luckily live on a downside of a hill so get a decent line of sight. I get a lot of feeds out of 7e but i think i could get more if i took the dish off the motor. I used to get a lot of channels on 7w but cannot get anything with it the motor on. With the motor on my dish is blocked by the garage.
