New secondstage bootloader ssl84 for dm800se from sim2

sim2 announced release of sim2-ssl-84-dm800se today according to the plan of continuous support for sim2 dreambox users.
This great development is one of steps to achieve ability of users to enjoy latest images with latest original drivers.
sim2 also announced that work in progress to release ssl-84 for other sim2 dreambox models.

new ssl-84 is used as following

To use new ssl with original images:
-Flash new ssl-84 nfi to dreambox by internet explorer or dreamup(this used once if the current dreambox bootloader is ssl82 or older)
-Flash original image as usual
-Flash ssl-84 nfi to dreambox again and before rebooting the dreambox

This method may not apply to few images like latest releases of edg nemesis and oozoon and better to use already patched images with new ssl built in

To use sim2 patched images with new ssl 84
if the dreambox has old ssl 82 bootloader, flash new ssl-84 nfi first by internet explorer or dreamup then flash sim2 image
if new ssl84 already flashed to dreambox just flash the sim2 image by usual method

with the new ssl ,original drivers and most recent releases of plugins are working without modifications with exception of few plugins like webinterface and software manager may need to apply available specific patches.

-for better benefit from new ssl better to use with original drivers 2-9-2011
To take backup for the flash image with integrated new ssl we advice to use TSFlashBackup v 2.0
To install and to make backup of barry allen multiboot image we advice to use sim2-barryallen v 2.0

Thank you. But just to be sure, before flashing new images like emesis2-3-dm800se-SVN(093)-14-09-2011-ramiMAHER #ssl84, should I still flash the first time the ssl84 BEFORE new image? Or the ssl is automatically included and flashed with this new image?

hi , it is clear as written above , please read it again here

To use sim2 patched images with new ssl 84
if the dreambox has old ssl 82 bootloader, flash new ssl-84 nfi first by internet explorer or dreamup then flash sim2 image <<<<<<<
if new ssl84 already flashed to dreambox just flash the sim2 image by usual method

Ok ok, thanks. But Since often somewhere is written to do not reboot after flashing new ssl, in this case what is the right procedure? Flash ssl84 and then new ssl84image without rebooting or it just doesn't matter?

perfect but once you flash a picture with ssl84 and ssl84 image

subsequent images path already with 84 ssl no need to give it first right?

the procedure is used only if ssl mounted image installed before 82?
that for clarity

Flashing new ssl without rebooting the dreambox will not change anything,so after flashing the ssl you have to load it by rebooting the dreambox to setup mode again to activate the new bootloader
if you flash the original image without rebooting the dreambox to new sim2 ssl84 the web broweser will give you message invalid image architecture

the procedure for flashing original image and new ssl like this

To use new ssl with original images:
-Flash new ssl-84 nfi to dreambox by internet explorer or dreamup(this used once if the current dreambox bootloader is ssl82 or older).reboot the dreambox to setup mode again
-Flash original image as usual
-Flash ssl-84 nfi to dreambox again and before rebooting the dreambox

Ok, so also with patched images it's important to reboot before installing new image...
Just a question, can we install new ssl without installing new image? Can we just update the ssl to 84 and use an old image ssl82 based?

regarding the flashing sim2-ssl84 patched image ,yes you should boot to new bootloader sim2-ssl84 first if old ssl is already installed in dreambox but this step is not necessary in most cases and may preferable only if bootloader is very old(76)

hi m8 , i would like to ask , if we only flash ssl84 loader can we still use it with ssl82 patched images ??

can we switch back flashing old ssl82 loader after already we upgrade to ssl84 i-e is the procedure is downgradable or not possible ?

yes,you can downgrade to image with lower bootloader
also we can use ssl84 with old images and old drivers but behavior differs from image to image but generally no advantage from that and better to use with 2-9-2011 drivers

I did a try with openpli SSL82 the version of Mfaraj from July. I upgraded the SSL84 and try to updated the image just for testing. Result not good. So I put the new gjstroom SSL84 ( by the way the name of the image referenced SSL82 but real is SSL84)and all ok.
So I would recommended Used oficial Sim2 images and we will give the experience of which ones can be use it like originals.
Thank you to SIM2 for the support!!!!

I used the Tsbackup plugin you recommend for backups images with the SSL84 and I tried on openpli by gsjtroon and now stuck on boot. It tries to find a IP for flashing

TsFlashbackup is incompatible with newnigma and openpli because different architecture of these images,so expected to have problems in the backup(i wrote this when published
http://www.sat-universe.com/showpost.php?p=830529&postcount=1

I tried Flashbackup on both my 800 and 800se with Pli, first i mount in telnet:

mount -t jffs2 /dev/mtdblock2 /boot

Then start the backup, it does create the *.nfi file okay, but after creation things go really bad, lan-connection is gone colored buttons on remote dont work anymore.

After a reboot it goes straight into flashing mode.

Only thing you can do about this is grab the backup you just did make with TSflasher and flash it back..

In short it destroys pli when the backup is made, but the backup file itself is 100% okay!
