More than 6.3 million DTT receivers sold in Spain
According to Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Digital Terrestrial Television has achieved 85.3% coverage of the country, with 530,000 buildings upgraded for reception and 6.3 million digital boxes sold.
The forecast is that the number of DTT boxes sold will surpass the 7 million mark later this year, thanks to Christmas sales. The deputy director general for infrastructure and technical regulations of the Ministry of Industry, Ricardo Alvariño, says that in order for the digital TV to expand in Spain, the broadcast spectrum needs to be further opened up. He added that the switchover from analogue to digital TV should be completed in two years.
