Having problems formatting usb stick

I wont to multiboot E2 image on a usb stick.... and I had it to work... but it was very unstabel. I thought it was a poor stick.

But i always had trouble formating my stick... I get errors. Such as... " couldnt create root direktory" and " couldnt read file size" in telnet!!

I have tried 4 gb and 8 gb sticks... I have just bought a new 4 gb Kingston stick... but same results!!!

Have tried formatting the stick with Paragon Partition Manager... I got the new stick running that way... but the stick seems VERY slow.

Here is the commands I use in telnet:

I have deleted the partitions with fdisk and created 2 new ones sdb1 on 1048 mb and sdb2 on the rest and saved with command w.
I took the stick in/out the box to be sure. then :

umount /dev/sdb1
mkfs.ext2 /dev/sdb1.... but i get errors herr

if I sometimes am lucky to be able to formate it... i am not able to mount it... with the command mount -t ext2 /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1 ( I have made i folder with ftp called sdb1 in mnt/

I get another errors here!!

what is my problem ??? I have tried several different guides from here with no luck!!

faced the same problem

I faced same problem yesterday after i installed tha latest after i upgraded the flash image to 11694, so i downgraded it to NLB 9580 and the telnet worked fine by showing cuberevo> instead of -SH3-# that it was showing with the NLB 11694, and i was able to format again.
My advise to you is to flash NLB 9580 and follow link provided above.
Hope that help.

Are you sure that you are attempting to format the correct device (/dev/sdb1)?

You haven't mentioned whether or not you have a harddrive installed, or what image you are running in flash.

There is usually no need to mess around with partitioning. Unless you have a particular use for multiple partitions, I wouldn't bother. You can use the whole disk.

You can easily do the whole formatting and image extraction process on a PC running Linux. Use a live CD if you dont want to install Linux.

Yes Iam sure... that iam using the right commands:)

I have Sifteam r11673 in flash.. with hdd installed.

My plan was to have 4 partitions on the stick.. sdb1-sdb4... where I want to use sdb2 for swap... and sdb1,sdb3,sdb4.. for different E2 images using multiboot!!

Sometimes I managed to get an E2 image on sdb1 and sdb 2... but had lots of trouble with unstability... therefor I tried formatting and reinstall another image.... but got those errors!!

I have exactly the same problem.Cannot use the stick anymore to put E2 on because system always says : this usb device seems to be used as recording media .
Even if I unmount,I cannot format the stick.Maybe somebody can place a backup under windows from the stick.
