Let´s assume our story only sounds this confusing, because we only forgot to explain some things
:
-----
Archibald is the mistreated step son of the familiy (like in „Cinderella“) once upon a time in a kingdom.
As a baby he lost his real parents. So the mayor of the city and his wife, who had a big farm, took the baby. Archibald became one of nine brothers and sisters.
His deceased rich real father, a lawyer, had taken good care for his child, though. Archibald didn´t know that his step parents received an amply apanage to raise the boy well and to give him the best education, he could get. The step parents kept the money for themselves and they never sent him to school.
On purpose, they even forbid him to learn s.th., when a local teacher offered to teach the boy for free, because he found, Archibald was very intelligent. The greedy family parents for some reason wanted Archibald to stay dependent on them, being uneducated and unable to read and write.
The teacher, once being saved by Archibald´s real father from injustice in court, wanted to pay back to his son for good, though. He felt pity with the boy and thought it a shame to leave him uneducated. So underhand he taught him how to read and write. Pretending to be on botanic excurses, from time to time he passed the fields, where the boy often had to work like a servant. When Archibald was alone, the teacher called him and scribbled firstly letters, later on words and arithmetic excercises into the sand and explained their meaning to the boy. When he left, he always wiped away his drawings, because Archibald´s parents shouldn´t come to know of their secret.
One day Archibald had learned enough to be able to read whole books. The teacher lent him some of his own, always only one at atime, which Archibald hid from his family members.
One day the teacher and the boy, scribbling some excercises with a stick into the sand, had been watched by somebody. Although the golden wheat had grown up high, high enough for being harvested, soon, a shine of golden hair betrayed the anonymous observer. Archibald let the teacher go on talking about excercises, while he himself tiptoed towards the ambush of the spy. He expected to find one of his step brothers, prepared to give him a whip with the stick in his hand. To his surprise he found a beautiful, blond girl of his age, whom, up to now, he never had seen this close. She lived next door, what was a long distance between the two farms. Always working on the fields or on the farm and not going to school, he had never met her before.
She seemed to be afraid of something or even of him and so Archibald asked her, why she were hiding on her neighbour´s acre. The girl first didn´t want to tell and so Archibald took her by her hand and forced her to come with him. Perhaps she would tell the teacher more. The Teacher knew her from school. Trisha was her name. Firstly she started weeping, but in the end she told them what had happened. She had forgotten to close the fence door and some sheep had escaped, which she couldn´t find anymore. She was afraid to go home and get punished. Archibald and the teacher helped her find the sheep and since then Archibald and Trisha became friends. She never revealed Archibald´s secret to anyobody and as often as she could she, like the teacher, secretly visited him on the field.
So they grew up and fell in love with each other.
Archibald´s step father some day happened to come across the boy´s secret meetings with Trisha. All the plans he had had with him, were torpeded by this unwanted love. He forbid Archibald to meet Trisha. They met secretly from time to time, though, ignoring the prohibition.
The step father forced Archibald to mary his eldest daughter on his twentieth birthday, because on his twentyfirst birthday Archibald should inherit a fortune, that his real father had left for his son. Archibald didn´t know about that.
He only was told, that he must be thankful to the family, that had so generously raised him. They lied to him, that his future wife expected a baby, but the child´s father had stolen away. So somebody had to marry the dull, stupid thirty year old goat to avoid the shame and the scandal. Because Archibald didn´t have the families blood and was not akin with anybody, but owed a lot to the family, it were his duty to give back honour to his step sister. If he didn´t do so, he would be chased away from home. Without graduation from school or an accomplished apprenticeship, his chances to survive in a hostile world would be very low.
So Archibald obeyed and married his unloved wife, who had never been friendly to him his whole life. But he couldn´t forget Trisha and she couldn´t forget the handsome young man.
The family noticed this.
The step father drinking too much, had lots of debts. He urgently needed Archibald´s fortune and wanted it to become his on Archibald´s twentyfirst birthday. Archibald should subscribe a document, that handed over the fortune to his step father. Not being able to read, he wouldn´t find out, what he signed.
But Trisha might spoil the game. She was intelligent and perhaps would interfere.
Something had to be done to keep the two lovers apart.
The mayor often threatened Trisha, she would have to regret, if ever she met Archibald again. But she ignored this menace.
Once again in the pub, having had some drinks too many, the mayor came across a stranger. After some free drinks, the man declared to be a horus priest, being able to let people fall in love with whomever he wanted.
The mayor thought it a good idea to take the priest to a seperated chamber, where they would be unobserved by the other guests. There he asked the priest, if he could help him with a problem. The priest needn´t be informed about everything, the mayor said, but he would get good payment if he could make Trisha fall in love with somebody else, to let her forget Archibald.
The priest agreed.
In order to seal their deal, they ordered another beer.
The priest unseen for a short moment filled a drug into mayors ale. The mayor then couldn´t but tell him the whole truth, before he fell fast asleep.
The priest left the pub, knowing all, that he needed.
Only one day later, rumours were spread, that the mayor´s family had won an enormous sum of money in the lottery. Archibald´s twentyfirst birthday (No, he is NOT 35) was close to come and nobody should know, that the families sudden richness originally belonged to the mistreated step son.
The priest, however, knowing about the real source of the sudden fortune, made his own plans. By controlling Trisha, he wanted to get hold of Archibald´s property.
So he made Trisha fall in love with himself, not anybody else. He could do so by appearing to her by night as a tame wolf. Whenever she looked into the wolves eyes, this would prolong her love for the priest until the next night, when the spell had to be refreshed again.
But Trisha always got confused, when she saw Archibald. Her love for him came back. The spell wasn´t strong enough to wipe it out. So she never knew,

whom she loves more (Archibald or the horus priest)
