Hi lt707 (and hi all).
Yes, you´re right.
I´m even left with TWO old pieces of very expensive (2 x 1300 €) machinery.
All developers seem to be working on 7080HD software only for now.
If you read oe2 threads on different boards the last questions there only say:
Will this plugin/skin be available for 7080HD, too?
When ever there was a change from one oe to the next, it was possible to update for nearly all dreamboxes. I had oe1.5, oe1.6 and oe2.0. Now oe2.2 is available for 7080HD only.
All other dreamboxes are excluded. Can´t remeber anything like this happened before.
I´m disappointed, too, but I don´t want to complain. My two 8000s work like a charm and a 7080HD wouldn´t give me much more (USB3/ GBit LAN). I can do without animated menu and I don´t mind if my box needs 1 minute to boot from deep standby instead of 20 seconds.
I for myself won´t buy the 7080HD.
Who knows, if the 7080HD will be old crap, when goliath comes?
Maybe I´ll buy goliath (intended to be released 2015), at a date when the box will work flawlessly, what it always doesn´t if you´re a first buyer.
I don´t need spoiled recordings or having to post things like "my box won´t start" again, - things I experienced, when buying an early 8000HD.
But I would only buy, if goliath offered something very new. (e.g. 4k/HEVC h265 upscaling/recording/playback). If goliath boxes are a new expensive only full hd boxes, I won´t buy one.
Perhaps I´ll even only buy cheap linux boxes in future.
In my country smartcard pairing for pay-tv get´s introduced at the moment. Pay-tv subscribers have to use the company´s receiver (
they send it to you, even if you don´t want it and they send you V14 smartcard) and very soon it will be impossible to watch pay-tv with a dreambox or a linux box then.
Today one can only keep the V14 smartcard alive/unmarried by the use of OSCAM and blocking dangerous "marriage" EMMs. This method will not work for all times. Because of my pay-tv provider increasing the amount of adverts, already and having to use his crappy "closed" sat-receiver in future, I cancelled my subscription.
(
Most so called "blockbusters" I buy as 3D blu-ray, anyway, because of better quality. If I want to watch more I can use streaming services with my amazon FireTV.)
So a new dreambox would be useful for me for free to air channels only in future and I consider original dreamboxes a lot too expensive for such a purpose.
A cheaper, but quality linux box will do then, too.
Today I´m using both my 8000s with their original twin dvb-s tuners, only. I quit using the DVD disc writer long time ago, because I prefer cutting ts streams with ts-doctor and storing them on a NAS.
So, even two cheap twin "cloud iBox"es (VU+ clones) would do as a replacement, I guess. Cost less than 100 € each - difference to two 8000s = 2400 €.
But I´d rather buy not too cheap and prefer a "gigablue quad hd plus" (299 €), if I needed a new full hd box.
I probably never would have written this, if oe2.2 had been made availble for all dreamboxes.
But I guess, all owners of single core 400 MHz dreamboxes wouldn´t be satisfied with oe2.2, anyway - because it´s designed for boxes with dualcore 1,3 GHz.
Although it hurts, but this cut was necessary, due to hardware limitation of older dreamboxes.:mecry:
