i have a nas-basic type nas server NO Advertising links
mounted via samba to my 500s. i can browse
files on the nas hdd no problem, but when i record i usually get following error "record failed due to an write error during recording. check file system for corruption". some channels record fine for a while but most give same error. i tried two 500s,two hdd and two NAS servers. but same problem. tried all images but no luck. anyone know what problem is. cannot mount with cifs or nfs as they are not supported. really cheap way of adding recording to 500s if it will work properly.

Hi Kitoog,
I occasionally get a similar error with my cheapie NAS box from Maplins.
It looks as though the firmware on the box has issues with some characters that are being used to name the file - it can create the file, but has difficulties when trying to write any data to it.
There has been a recent beta firmware upgrade to allow the NAS box to handle MS Word temp files which use characters outside the A-Z,a-z,0-9 range, but I've moved recently, and haven't had the chance to test whether this problem is also fixed.
The alternative would be to change the way that the dreambox decides on a name for the recording... again, I haven't had the time to look into this yet, but there are some knowledgable folks on this forum.
Not a solution, but I hope that I've helped clarify the problem.

have latest beta installed but still the same. even if it did work properly the 500s
has very bad recording quality due to its network faults. gonna try the 500s network fix next week when i get all the parts. info available on 500s forum at dreamboxonline.com .
