what does emu stand for

I am a complete beginner and while seaching through the posts I noticed that several files have emu after them does this stand for emulator if so how can it be used I have a globo 6000 ci. I downloaded a key editor but not sure how to use it do i need to update firmware (at least I know what this is) if so where can i get a loader any help would be great thanks
