Virgin 1 rocks with live music show

Virgin Media's UK entertainment channel Virgin 1 is launching a live music show called Virgin 1 Presents, featuring artists including The Buzzcocks, The Pretenders, The Guillemots and The Magic Numbers.

The 13x60' series comes from Music Engine Productions. The concerts will premiere on Virgin 1 and will also be available on-demand to Virgin Media customers.

Virgin 1 Presents The Guillemots at The Astoria will kick off the series on Saturday November 17 at 23.00, with Virgin 1 Presents Robert Plant at The Cornbury Music Festival the following week and a new performance at the same time for the next 11 weeks.

Other artists will include Jose Gonzalez, Nerina Pallot and Robyn Hitchcock.

Subscribers will have free access to the gigs seven days after their premiere on Virgin 1, which is carried on Freeview, digital satellite and Virgin Media platforms.

Amy Barham, head of acquisitions at Virgin 1, said: "The Virgin brand has long been synonymous with music so we are thrilled to have such a high calibre of cool and iconic performers on the channel."

Virgin 1 Presents is produced by Martin McCabe and Simon Clement-Davies. Mick Southworth and Katy Haswell are executive producers.

In other news, parent company Virgin Media said it had added 13,000 new customers in its third-quarter results today. It hailed the results as a significant turnaround after losing 70,000 customers in Q2.

The group said it had 20,400 net new additions to its television service and 116,000 net new additions to its broadband offering. Churn, or the number of people leaving the service, stood at 1.7% – down from 1.8% in the previous quarter.
