USB serial Adapter Null Modem Cable Ariva 252

HI

I got a NUll Modem Cable and a USB serial adapter so I can connect to my PC.
I have the EROM upgrade tool open and working I can connect to the Ariva 252 via the pc via com port 5

I follow the steps in order to flash stb
- press connect then turn on box I get a connection "done"
- then i get a error STB memory error please retry

The only area that I can think is causing this error is the USB serial adapter as everything else seems ok.

Has anyone done a reflash using one of these USB serial Adapters or do I have to invest in an PCI Express RS232 Card

in the tool, select the port, select the software to upload, press start, and only, turn the power on the receiver

and wait until the receiver obtains a connection

yes I have done all this and it seems to sync fine
I only turn on the ariva 252 after I hit connect.

the flash starts and then after ten seconds the error appears
stb memory error

I tried a couple of different firmware versions but same problem
I am happy that I know I am connecting via the null modem but I can't explain why this is happening "memory error"

I am using a win 8 laptop but I am not sure if the usb serial adapter is compatible with win 8 I have checked the driver properties and device working properly

seems to be connecting fine following the steps correctly
my usb serial adapter must be causing the problem I can't seem to complete reflash although connect is working.

ive a usb serial and worked fine with windows 8 on the 250

use the orignal ferguson software and not patch software .

you can flash that later if ur up and going

Cheers that's good to know usb serial will work , I have only attempted to flash with official software thanks further tests today hope I can achieve desired results
Could you post the brand and make of your usb to serial rs232 adapter for Windows 8 so I know a type that will work thanks

guys i have dishtv HD box and i need its dump file the problem is dishtv hd box dont have serial port it has only usb port can i get backup using usb to null modem cable
