Hi

i have a TM7100 HD receiver. I’ve been battling with this off and on since last year. Replaced the fan as it had become noisy, replaced the hard drive as that had seized up. But tuner one only works in the cold weather or if I have an external fan blowing on it constantly. Tuner 2 is ok.

Looking on the circuit board it says TM7100, but also it says HTSST - 8000HDV TM Ver1.2. Does this mean I could put a tuner from an 8000HD machine (which Technomate still sell) on my TM7100? I have attached the photo, (sorry it’s upside down).

Ive emailed Technomate who have advised me that they don’t have any knowledge about the tm7100!

Have you tried reflashing the stb, resetting to factory defaults and reloading patch or official sw?

Have you checked all the caps?
everything physically on the circuit board is fine, or at least seems to be. tuner one works for about 1/2 hour, then “no or bad signal” is displayed on screen. If I put an external fan (house fan) blowing on the casing, “no or bad signal doesn’t appear” and it works ok. after replacing the fan and hard drive in November last year it was ok, but seems to be having problems now the weather has warmed up. The LNB has been changed and the cabling is ok. it’s running the official software. I havent reflashed it as I’m thinking the way it’s behaving it’s sounding like the tuner is overheating?

I have spoke to TM and they have basically suggested the same as I have, they stopped selling that receiver in 2012 so have no spares etc. As you say the caps are all ok, unless you are willing to factory reset and or load new sw/patch theres not much more that can be suggested tbh

With the circuit board saying 8000HDV, I was wondering if that meant it was the same board used in both receivers and although the software/firmware would be different the physical parts (eg tuner) would be the same. If this was the case I would buy the 8000 that Technomate still sell and take the tuner from that to fix the 7100. I can’t seem to find out if the 8000HDV printed on the circuit board means that, or if it’s just a coincidence?

As TM have no idea either it may be prove an expensive guess, That receiver is very old, It's not even hd freeview I believe.

It’s not Freeview HD, but I use it for the satellite channels only. I’ve been told that Linux based machines won’t work with the cam I have (secure cam). And have been advised against the 8000 as it has various issues. So it would be “easier” if I could get the TM7100 to work

I don't know about the 8000, but I believe that your 7100 could be possibly fixed.
You said that the problem came again during hot days.... so it seems a thermal issue.
Have you a solder? If so, when the receiver seems to work, try to put solder's tip near the tuner, particularly near capacitors, and check if something changes.
It is a "dirty" job, I know that, but it is an old way to find possible faulty parts.
If you find the bad component.... well, replace one (or more) capacitor is an easy job.
If you have no solder, I believe that a good technician could make the job for you.

thanks, I don’t know anyone that I could trust to do that

It’s viaccess secure cam. It won’t work in my tm5402. Some security thing apparently.
What card is it?
Have you tried the card on its own, those old 5402 are multicrypt
What version TM5402?
@barney115 may be able to help what cards they can read.

It’s BIS TV (France) card. Won’t work in the multicrypt card slot, won’t work in a normal viaccess cam either. It’s called ”secure crypt” and it has a padlock in the cam. I also use Smart WI as I have a Canal Digitaal card. I have a Linux receiver which it doesn’t work in, but that does work in the tM5402

What version TM5402 there are 4 versions.
Is it patched or not?
If patched what patch are you using?

If Tuner 1 is a problem but tuner 2 is OK, have you thought that it may be the LNB ? I would try switching the input cables to see if the problem persists on Tuner 1 or if it shifts to Tuner 2 with the switchover of the cables. Just a thought as there has been no mention of LNBs in you problem descriptions.

On another site he says he has changed the lnb
So as the LNB was about 8 years old, thought maybe changing that would do the trick. But after changing the LNB, the problem is still there.
