HELLO Just wondering if anyone can help me set up my DVB-S..I seem to have trouble getting my tuner select ASIA Satellite..Where do I need to load it to select the satellite I like to scan.I been trying to create a new satellite .XTML files but not loading in the setup menu...

Hello mate

You can create a satellite for you area on the site

Code: 
http://satellites-xml.eu/

Then transfer the sat.xml by ftp to /etc/tuxbox/

Reboot and do a manual scan of the sat.


Menu-setup-service searching tuner config menual scan. You should find your newly added Asia sat there.

THAT WORKED GREAT.I'm able to scan the satellite for services now but DO YOU SAVE THE SERVICES?? after you done the scan...

It should auto save them mate.

It is good practice though to do a soft reboot when you make changes.

THANKS finally got it going.........Cheers......I seen some images in this site...IS Gemini 5.1 good or should I look for other images??Why would you change your Images??I seen this UNIT can have a 2'5 ich internal HDD..Whats the biggest size it can take??

I never use Gemini mate sorry.

Newnigma PLI Sifteam all good images.

As for the internal hdd ive heard of 1tb drives been used. Ive personally used 120 gig and 250gig drives. I always stick to the 5400rpm drives as the 7200 drives are noisier and the extra speed is not needed.

What do you need to know mate what level are you at can you flash images ?

I been reading about how to flash and images people are using here.I can't find a tread why people using their own images..Is it more prefference??why would you choose a image over another??

All images are based on the same basic image, the development teams add to the basic image with things like EPG, USB Tuner panels addons downloads etc.

There will always be one aspect of a image one image has others don't. So yeah it is down to what you want from the image as to which you prefer.

About the images, Ferret,
Newnigma, is a good choice but don't like the image organisation, and presentation, PLI images are too new, and not for DM800, i use pli on DM500...
The pli team speciality is DM500 (look at the download stats on their site)

Actually for me, Gemini 5.1 is the better choice, the image organisation is better than Newnigma...
LT6 is very good and you have lot of skins to personalise it, LT 6.5 is nice also, but only few skins... i would go for LT images but i don't like the mini tv in channel list...

With the recent images (year 2010 images) i prefer :
1/ Gemini 5.1 (because of EPG 7 days)
2/ LT 6 / LT6.5
3/ newnigma (i don't like the presentation but it's an good image...)
4/ ooZoon latest is nice also

With old images :
The best for me is Nabilosat Blackhole 12, because in 2009, it was the only one image wich work with Csat FR epg...

I'm actually using Gemini 5.1, and i'ts ok, but if i have found pleasant skin for LT image, i would go for LT6 or LT6.5...

Hope it will help...

ps : be aware if your box is an clone, choose an image wich will be compatible with your bootloader...

When I learned more and gain confident re:flashing..I will try other images...What are Cams??Why do we need it??...Anyway About Gemini 5.1...I'am installing a HDD and it detects my USB Flash Drive...IS there an addon to watch Xvids/.Avi files form HDD/USB Stick??Also I got a Clone DM800 one of the plugins are Youtube Players is that safe to use over the internet??Tried it seems to locked my BOX???I can download packages and Addons no problem..What addons or software I should Download or need??....Also whats the best HD skins you tried??Downloading too much fills your memory up??

Cams are also know as emus they are a software version of a hardware cam. These are needed to read cards decrypt channels with keys etc.

On a 800 there is no addon to watch avi of a usb stick you could stream them from you pc see this guide

Youtube is safe yes. Although some version of it don't work and could crash the box.

DARN...........I woke up this morning and MY BOX wont BOOT/POWER UP....The only light is going is the Ethernet Plug at the back..Fan still spinning..IS this BOX dead??Pity I'm beginning to love this Decoder??

Dont panick mate turn it off for a hour reboot and see if it starts if not first thing to try do is reflash it.

HI thanks again.......I think I might have to re-flash I had it off the whole day...Still no go..How do you get about Re flashing it??I tried DreamUp but it was asking me to turn on the BOX but no power??
