Russian cableco set to buy Komkor
10.10 Europe/London, October 25, 2011 By Chris Dziadul
The Moscow City Government plans to sell its remaining 9.87% stake in Komkor, the operator of one of the largest fibre-optic networks in the Russian capital.
According to AKTR and Marker, an auction for the stake has been scheduled for mid-November, with the sale being undertaken through a company named Elektronniya Moskva.
The most likely buyer is believed to be the Moscow-based cable operator Akado, which uses Komkor’s infrastructure.
By some accounts, Komkor has connected around 30% of homes in Moscow.
It is believed that by acquiring the stake and another (of 2.67%) being sold by Moscow City Government early next month – and thereby gaining complete control of Komkor – Akado’s own sale could move a stage closer.
Svyazinvest was earlier in talks to buy the cable operator but these reached an impasse.
