Well, I did get my IP BOX 9000 HD back yesterday after 2 months. No explanation, though I did say I would like it back in the same shape as when I bought it.

Switched on it goes into the booting mode and stays there. Now, I do get the alphanumeric display. Can't get USB upgrade mode.

Perhaps xxxAxxx could help me. Do I have to reinstall the root software.

Many thanks

I underI'm stll awaiting my IP Box 9000 HD from the distributor. It died after about 2 months of use. I sent it back to the dealer on December 18 2008 and I still haven't got it back.
I vaguely understand that a spare part was received but the original operating system had to be replaced, so the box is still with the dealer.

At the time there was one other user (egendream) with the same problem.Could I ask if your problem has been resolved, and was there any explanation for the cause ?

Many thanks

TerD

Thanks xxxAxxx,

When this happened the Box was on standby with the time on the front. Pressing the PWR button brought up the XXXXXXXXXXXXX on the display which then just went black and caused the button to flash, until all went dark. Indeed, I have used the on/off switch to restart the IP BOX several times. But even in my old digibox a restart after blocking was only possible by pulling out the mains lead and putting it back in again.

Are you saying that the ON/OFF switch causes spikes to the circuitry ? An external power supply is obviously the best solution to avoid this problem in the future.

stand that AB Com sent a spare part to my dealer who hinted that they had problems getting it to work.

And it doesn't.

have you previously been booting from a usb stick. ?
could be stuck in usb stick booting mode.

i think you will need to get the usbupgrade up on front before you can flash original firmware.

DK,

JUst to reply to this, no, but perhaps my dealer may have done this.
Once I find out how to get into USB UPGRADE mode I can flash as I have done previously.

Hi Tred,

I'm glad you finally got your box back, too bad it started with problems.

Some ideas that may help

Power off with Power + OK, Power on again
Check in your rooter to see if there is an IP assigned to the box. If Yes try to access it with FTP / telnet

Power off with Power + OK, Remove the network cable, Power on again

USB upgrade mode
Power off with Power + OK
For the latest UBOOT you keep pressing the power btn until you see USB Upgrade
Previous versions Power + Left arrow OR Power + up arrow. Try some combinations.

Multi boot setup
The standard configuration is no. 4 for DGS image. I have setup mine on 1 for DGS and 2 for Enigma, so when powering up try to press one of the numbers to see if you get any further.

Loose connection due to shipment
Open the box and check if something is loose insight.

Good Lack

Much appreciated Dorosk,

Now I have somewhere to start and I didn't realise that the command for USB UPGRADE had changed ( 3 months since I last flashed an image).

Still booting

First of all, thanks all for the encouraging comments.

I still haven't got past the booting stage after trying all combinations of your suggestions. As I said some of these procedures have changed since I was flashing images comfortably some 3 months ago.

Trying to be positive, my 9000 starts, boots and can be put on standby. If it's looking for a USB stick to boot from, would it continue with BOOTING on the display ?

In which case is there an image which I can put on a USB stick to try out.

I've had other suggestions such as connecting to the router which I tried but until its booted it won't pick an IP address, right?

Thanks

From the little thinks I know USBupgrade is before Booting so even if you have a set up for multi boot it should change to USB upgrade.

Try while in stand by to turn it off from the back. Leave it for couple of minutes. Now keep pressing the Power btn and turn it on from the back. Hopefully it will change to USB upgrade.

Another thing is to connect with serial cable and post the outcome here (null modem cable - female to female).

To do this connect via serial console with an hyper terminal connection to the receiver (I suggest you to use putty, it's freeware, and configure it to use a 115200 serial connection)
Turn off the receiver and turn it on. Copy everything you will see on the screen and post here. One of our experts should be able to give some advise.

Below are the boot commands I have used for Enigma. Basically by pressing 1 on the remote you start DGS image and by pressing 2 you start enigma (my box has a HDD)

turn on the receiver and hit ctr+z in serial console
you should see the following prompt:

cuberevo>

5. customize the following settings to your network environment and type them into the
serial console:

Code:

setenv menu_1 'setenv ipaddr 192.168.2.69;setenv serverip 192.168.2.4;setenv gateway 192.168.2.1;setenv netmask 255.255.255.0;setenv bootargs "console=ttyAS1,115200 panic=3 root=/dev/mtdblock3 bigphysarea=1500 ip=$ipaddr:$serverip:$gateway:$netmask quiet";setenv bootcmd "bootm a0060000";saveenv;boot'

setenv menu_2 'setenv ipaddr 192.168.2.69;setenv serverip 192.168.2.4;setenv gateway 192.168.2.1;setenv netmask 255.255.255.0;setenv bootusb "run bootargsusb;usb reset;ext2load usb 0:1 a5ff0000 boot/uImage;bootm a5ff0000";setenv bootargsusb "setenv bootargs console=ttyAS1,115200 panic=3 root=/dev/sdb1 rw rootdelay=10 init=/bin/devinit ip=$ipaddr:$serverip:$gateway:$netmask mem=128m coprocessor_mem=4m@0x10000000,4m@0x10400000";setenv bootcmd "run bootusb";saveenv;boot'

saveenv

remember to customize where ipaddr is the ip of your decoder, serverip is the ip of your nfs-server (PC), gateway is your gateway ip, netmask is the mask of your home-net

6. now you can restart your decoder and press the relative remote controller's button for 5 seconds to start the image you want:

Press Button 1: start your original flash image in the decoder (DGStation's original firmwares and images based on them)

Press Button 2: start E2 your image using usb pendrive if you have a SATA hdd

That operation is necessary only the first time you want to change your boot commands. You don't need to press all the time you reboot the decoder a button to select which image to start, simply do that only if you want to change to e2 nfs from usb, or from original images.

Much appreciated

Thanks Dorosk

I'll try the simpler task first before I go to a serial cable.

I much appreciate your advice, and others who try to help me get the IP Box back to life again.

Yes, indeed. But I need to get into USB Upgrade mode which is my challenge for the moment. The box sticks on 'BOOTING'

Even without a usb cable connected it will change to Usb upgrade.
While the power btn is pressed it will say booting at the beginning and after a few seconds it changes to usb upgrade.

Still dead IP BOX: total silence on switch on

I think I'm going to have to admit that this box will not go
into USB upgrade.

My dealer informs me that he replaced the entire motherboard,
and updated the IP Box with the latest image. This doesn't solve the current problem, he also suggested changing the video mode ( of course if it will not USB upgrade it will not change video mode). It doesn't.

One thing strikes me: total silence on switch on,I'm sure before that the fan/ HDD kicke in immediately on power up. Does this suggest no power on the motherboard (or would the alphanumeric display light up, go into booting, do a pwr off to display the clock without the motherboard having power).

Question is, can I check this myself. If anyone can advise, would appreciate. Otherwise it's back to my dealer.

Thank you

try this...

pwer of the stb ( dont power off from the back)

use

power+ok button cold power off....

use the serial log tool....

now you must need a null cable( the same cables they use for like humax or other SD boxes to flash frimware)

connect the serial cable to ipbox...

run the seribox tool on your pc

com 1 (or check on your device manager if you use usb-serial cable look in to what port take the converter)

select 115200

and hit the Start

now turn on the ipbox

paste the info here ..we see what the box trying to do...

IP Box test

Thanks again for your patience.

I have to find a null-modem cable(here in adsl land they are as scarce as tube TVs).

I'll follow your advice, but tell me, if the motherboard has no power, will this work. When my HDD was connected it made no signs of life in this 'repaired 'IP box).

I'm coming to the same conclusion as Catseye - seek a replacement for this box, there are better ways of spending a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Many thanks,

TerD

IP Box test

I tried with the null cable using SeriBox and putty,
switching on and off the IP box but get no info coming through.

When I do switch ON the IP BOX windows says that a 'network cable is unplugged' so there is a link, but no data from the IP Box.

I guess this reaffirms what I said previously, the motherboard is not active.

Thanks for your patience folks. I think that I have reached the limit of my test rig.

When u have connected box to pc using null modem cable

Open up putty or puttytel program
select serial on screen, select which com port your box is connected to your pc (com1, com2, etc) & type in speed box 115200 -then click open

U should get, if settings have been entered correctly a blank black screen

Then switch box on -but hold control key on pc & hit 'z'button before & during switch on of box

Then if you timing is right you should see 'Cuberevo command prompt as it loads

You can then copy & paste this on screen info back on here so we have an idea what its doing & where the problem may be

Hope this helps
