Late to this party, but I have managed to pickup a cheap used combo.
For the life of me i cant get it to flash via USB from the android update option. (online update worked to firmware version 5. something)
I have tried front and rear ports with low level, fat32 formatted USB (3 different ones now) the usb shows up on screen but there is no option for firmware on the USB
I have the special.bin on the root of the USB. Am i doing something stupid here ? Should the .bin be in a sub folder ??
Before i go down the recovery route, can i use the special.bin as a recovery file (renamed to RomUpdate.bin) or should i stick to official firmware?
Any suggestions welcomed

Try and factory reset of the firmware you have first but then i would start the procedure as shown below to try and recover it.

If you go the recovery way then use 5.0

On your USB create a folder and call it “RomUpdate ” and inside that folder place 5.0 and rename it as “RomUpdate.bin”

Another thing always factory reset after flashing each firmware or weird stuff can happen.

As you have version 5 on the box try a factory reset to see if it then sees the special.bin on a usb update flash. Firmware's flashed this way do not need renaming.

Try and use an older usb 2.0 stick, the dual isn't a fan of usb 3.x sticks, seems the slower ones work better.

Thx mate, with that im finally getting it to flash the special source as we speak.
I used a very old 4gb stick in the end, none of the others 4/5 sticks (all of them usb 2) worked, even though i was able to recover the box using an 8gb usb2 stick that was always my go to when i had zgemmas ( they were also anal about what you stuck in them lol)

On the E2 images you can check signal strength and see when the motor is moving the dish (flashing icon)- is there a way to do the same on the Android image?

Just to give heads up on this image, the link above for the usb version did not load for me on the dual, there is another version of the image which is called ogwriter which i had to download to be able to install it via openatv software update method which put it into a multiboot slot. When the image loads it very much feels like another version of openpli but with a hint of vix. Levi 45 addon and multicam are both installed. I Installed the vhannabal icam rotating list as normal for any image i test. I then tried to install ncam 14.9 from an ipk but this did not install in the softcam menu instead went directly into the levi45 multicam menu. The only cam available via the plugins menu was a later version of oscam which i installed and added my line, various packages opened but sky de did not and neither sky uk. I've tried updating the caids ect but no go yet. This is via a normal channel list as with all dual images based on openpli if you try and watch an icam channel via the streaming method the receiver locks up. The receiver goes into standby ok so i've left it there at the moment. Has anyone else had a play yet.

Running the latest 1.09 firmware and installed a few channel list backups, BUT with those, the picture quality in HDR is absolute rubbish.
i have now factory reset to get rid of HDR and am now in the process of sorting my own channel list out, picture quality is far far better without HDR.

I take it there is no simple way to sort channels? Software to convert an Enigma2 list to the android format would be good..... or am i dreaming here ?

Have you tried @FENEKI channel list? Not sure if the one below is the latest or not.

Not sure you can disable HDR but on mine the picture quality is superb, LG OLED set to 4096x2160p 50hz. The Dual has a bug with resolution where as if you set a resolution say 4096x2160p 50Hz the next time you switch it on the resolution will change to 3802x2160p 60Hz which is easily changed back on the RESOL button.

Digital sound when set to HDMI RAW always reverts to PCM, when on PCM the lip-sync always goes out after about an hour for me.

Follow this if you want to improve the speed when clicking through the menu's : Go to Settings, Preferences, Applications, All, Settings, Open, Accessibility, Remove Animations.

I found that if you load someone else's channel list that it's not just a channel list but a backup of their setting as well so better to do your own or go through all the setting and change them to your own.

I find the Drs2 more reliable, here are my issues with the dual

Blind scan still locks, try 4.8 east after a factory rest.

You can add tps but after a reboot they may or may not be saved to the database.

Recording Icam Issues

Timer Recordings

Dish not moving or not moving to where it should. Again not with a channel list after a flash or factory reset, Feneki lists solve most the issues

EPG Pro very poor now and next mostly on 28e

PVR via File manager or VLC is not good enough for me.

Randomly refuses to clear a channel even though it will tell you server connected a reboot usually the only way to fix it.

The DRs2 has cabinet space the Dual does not.

Will keep testing till i part ways with the drs2 lol, but so far im preferring the combo
Every android based STB is rubbish, i have a gt combo thats also a pile of crap lol.
Forever should just come up with a closed source encrypted cam and let us use it on e2 boxes that actually work (yes i know I'm dreaming again)

That's because they will have been made using V1.07 HDR disappeared on V1.09 with the USB update. I've factory reset back to original V5.0 loaded the special then using OTA V1.09 the HDR is still there and no way to disable.

No issues here with moving my dish with the DRS2 i did have, redid my coax run with ct125 and swapped the LNB out to something less power hungry and a 3 amp psu solved it.

Ill try a blind scan on 30 west.

Well ive tried two 30 west blind scans on each of my dishes and they all complete on my DRS2, they take over 10 mins but they complete to 100%
