PC Spec for 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 Feeds?

Hi all,

I am looking at building or getting a cheap 2nd hand PC for 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 Feeds on 10E etc.

What are the minimum spec requirements I need?

I was thinking something like...

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @3.00GHz
8GB RAM

Is the TBS 6902 TV Tuner Card £89.99 any good for use with DVBDream software and vPLug 2.4.6?

What kind of Graphics Card would I need? Would a 2GB Geforce GT 730 be ok or would I need something higher spec?

4:2:0 Feeds do not require any high specs
its the 4:2:2 Feeds that require good spec PC To run especially feeds with high bit rate of 10-30mb or more
TBS 6902 TV Tuner Card is perfect with DVBDream software and vPLug 2.4.6
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz is a pretty basic PC
nothing great considering most PC's are Quad Core and Better
So this is quite weak even tho' its 8GB
2GB Geforce GT 730 you would likely get away with that but again its nothing special only 384 cuda cores
but saying that you would likely get away with it only just .
Think of a much higher end PC for 4:2:2 Feeds you will not regret it i know it will cost a lot more but to watch 4:2:2 Feeds does require a much better than standard PC that is for definite .
Good luck : )

Thanks barney, should I up the processor to an Intel Core i5 at least and can you recommend a graphics card that will have no problems with 4:2:2 feeds? What do you have?

Kind Regards

Intel Core i5 sounds just so much better ,
my Graphics card is very old but it still allows me to watch 4:2:2 Feeds without any issues with only DivX Codecs .

MY PC Specs are ..
AMD FX(tm) - 8350 EIGHT CORE PROCESSOR
4.00GHZ , 16GB DDR3 RAM
Nvidia GEFORE GTX 660 Graphics card

Motherboard = ASUS Tek Computer INC M5A99X EVO R2.0 REV

MY Sat Gear :
TBS 5980 USB Q-Box CI
TM5402 M3 HD For Blind Search
Starsat 2000 HD HYPER FOR BISS AUTO ROLL

hope that helps ????

From what I can tell most graphics cards don't support 422 in hardware so you're better off spending the money on raw CPU grunt. My MBP will play them all through VLC fine.

I've been playing with transcoding 422 on a PC and streaming it back to my receiver. Got a working setup with ffmpeg but needs more tweaking yet to be reliable.

My spec:

MB: MSI H81-P33
GPU: Gigabyte GT1030
CPU: Pentium G3258 (stock)
8gb Ram
128gb SSD

I have gaming rigs i have built for several thousand pounds upstairs, for this hobby a basic rig works for me

TBS5520se USB tuner

SmartDVB 64bit beta

I can watch almost anything (99% of stuff posted here), i was also late to the party like you but have slowly over the last 3 or so months managed more or less to get my head around it now (coming from a long time enigma 2 background)

You wont regret it trust me, at first its a minefield ie drivers, codecs, which DVB software to use, plugins

Truth is i am still learning on a daily basis but am able to get over problems more easily now

I am about to delve into the scary world of C band sometime soon when i can be bothered, i will be learning all over again :mecry:

One tip from me: Windows 7 is your friend :thum:

Thanks for you help guys after seeing your posts I noticed you both have external USB tuners which looks like a better option for me as I can try it on any pc or laptop. Is an external USB tuner just as good as an internal PCI one?

There are quite a few different TSB usb tuner models so now just trying to decide which to get...

Looking at your tuners what the difference between for example TBS 5980 USB Q-Box CI compared to TBS 5520se USB tuner?

I can see TBS 5980 USB Q-Box CI can take a cam/card - do you find that useful?

The TBS 5520SE is Multi-standard so can it also work with C band do everything that the TBS 5980 can do with the exception of a cam/card slot?

TBS5520SE has only one demodulator so you can view either DVB-C or DVB-S2

Bit of a marketing scam really by TBS, that said it does the job

I mainly bought it because it is cheap and i wanted to dip my toe in the water

Regards the cam/card isnt that defeating the object

I keep reading good things about the TBS6903 but is expensive: https://shop.tbsdtv.com/tbs6903-pro...pcie-cardcompatible-with-eumetcast-p-136.html

Hi gap30 I am thinking of buying the TBS5520SE I can see you have been posting in the TBS Support forums... Are all the drivers and everything working now for Windows 10?

I just want it for La Liga football feeds on 10E at the moment and hoping it will all work on Windows 10.

Apart from the Windows Drivers, DVBDream software and vPLug 2.4.6 what else do I need? I need to know more about codecs and have read somewhere about LAV filters.

dvbdream or dvbviewer not optimized for Chroma subsampling

4:2:2

The two chroma components are sampled at half the sample rate of luma: the horizontal chroma resolution is halved. This reduces the bandwidth of an uncompressed video signal by one-third with little to no visual difference

nvidia GPU-accelerated don't support 4:2:2

for good fps in cpu mode ********

Speed comparison
Main article: Frame rate

Number of frames per second (FPS) commonly used for compression/decompression speed measurement.

The following issues should be considered when estimating probable codec performance differences:

Decompression (sometimes compression) frame time uniformity – Big differences in this value can cause annoyingly jerky playback.
SIMD support by processor and codec — E.g., MMX, SSE, SSE2, each of which change CPU performance on some kinds of tasks (often including those with which codecs are concerned).
Multi-threading support by processor and codec – Sometimes[when?] turning on Hyper-threading support (if available on a particular CPU) causes codec speed to decrease)
RAM speed – generally important for most codec implementations
Processor cache size – low values sometimes cause serious speed degradation, e.g. for CPUs with low cache such as several of the Intel Celeron series.
GPU usage by codec — some codecs can drastically increase their performance by taking advantage of GPU resources.

So, for example, codec A (being optimized for memory usage – i.e., uses less memory) may, on modern computers (which are typically not memory-limited), give slower performance than codec B. Meanwhile, the same pair of codecs may give opposite results if running on an older computer with reduced memory (or cache) resources.

Thanks gap30 I have been using the TBS 5520SE and it is working well, but do you have any idea what the red usb connection on the cable is for?

Kind Regards

When watching satellite tv, You can put the red plug into second USB to draw more current for LNB. There are no data wires in the red plug.

Does it result in more or stronger signal? What's the goal of designing this kind of capability?

Have you noticed any increase in signal when both USB’s connected?

Do you know where I can get a longer cable like this one? I need about 3 metres.

Dears,
yesterday I received my new TBS 5520.

The card seems ok, BUT I HAVE GREAT PROBLEMS TO MAKE IT WORK PROPERLY.

I have problems to make it recognize by softwares (Smartdvd, DVB viewer and progdvb) and after many attemps when I make it, it is enough to change satellite and sometimes even frequency to restart it again and struggle with software to make it recognize.
Then I did it only once to make work Diseq.

When the card decides to work, it is very good (tuner, t2-mi and multistrem).

I used even last drivers by the mighty Crazycat, but they are not working, a lot better with Florian's but I can't use diseq..... and I know it should work, once it did.... :(

This is not the way to enjoy it...

So I will pass next days trying to find help ......

Diseq is my greatest problem.... :(

any idea?

Best regards

Pierangelo
