Got a VU Duo today but motor issue?

Hi, I just got my hands on this box this morning but I have been trying to sort it out for about 6 hours.

The initial set-up/HDD installation was very easy. Im used to enigma 2 on the DM800 and it was very similar. The first image I tried was Dreamelite. I got it sorted but my motor wouldnt move with usuals.

I then tried the Pli and VTI images but the same thing happened.

I have tried usuals the simple way and the complex way with each individual satellite.

I have a stab motor that didnt work with the dm800 clone either but worked with the dm500(sort of), works with my TM9100 and Works with my TM1000d.

I even tried the manual positioner method using a tutorial but no luck. Once I move the dish and store it. It wont go back to the initial satellite.

Other than that the VU is a good, fast box (compared to the DM800hd). But it is massive(even larger than my tm9100) and ugly  I cant really comment on the Pic qual because im only using it on a 32inch 1st gen lcd 720p tv at the mo but I might test it on my better tv at some point.

I really hope someone can help. Thanks

Hi mate

My VU spins a stabb 120 with not trouble, i get what your saying with the 800 though they don't output enough power to move motors over long runs of cable.

If the cable is old or in poor condition or joins in it then you'll run into trouble on a 800 maybe the VU is the same!

Some power hungry LNB's will also take to much power for the motor to get enough to move.

You could try enabling the increased power option!

You'll find the by selecting the tuner scroll through the setting till you find it.

I think it will only be available to select under the Advanced setting option.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I tried every possibility but no luck . I think your right, Ferret. My cable is long and my motors old and power hungry. I guess Ill have to continue passing through the trusty old Tm1000d. Its not ideal but im usually stuck on 28.2e anyway. It is a shame though because im also on 1 west regularly.

My cable is about 30m of RG6 (fairly cheap) my other cable run is 50m of wf100 but i think that will be even worse.

The only option is to get a modern motor but I dont want to spend more money at the moment. Maybe in a few months.

The good news is no amps and no glitching!

Thanks again

Lol I just noticed I wrote USUALS and not USALS. I was really tired at the time of writing that cos I had work to do overnight. I must sound a right idiot. lol

The worst part is I actually know its USALS. I dont know what I was thinking:confused:

The 50m run is a long one mate, anything over 30 meters on a 800 and maybe the VU id use CT125 which is thicker and lower loss make sure you get matching F connectors too.

Hello mate. Today I moved the VU downstairs to the 50m run (wf100). The 50m run is pretty good snr wise cos I get no glitching on the 800 (with an amp) on that run.

At first I couldnt get the motor to work with the VU. I fiddled around with resetting the box ect and then bingo USALS worked on all positions. It was slow but it worked.

The 30m run cable is crap but its less than a year old. It hasnt got copper sheilding but gives a good snr. I checked all the connectors and they are all ok.

I figure if I replace the 30m cable with good stuff it should be ok.

So is CT125 the best cable?. Ill try and get that then. Im quite happy with the wf100 though. Its not bad.

What about shotgun cable. What type would you recommend?

On another note the VU's picture on a 58" 1080p seemed on par with the 800 to me. If I get the motor working the VU would be perfect.

By shotgun cable do you mean the twin cable like sky use?

Would not recommend that i would imagine very high loss.

Hi All. Try to make the cable shorter. I had the same problem, and by reducing the length by 1.5 m (lucky me) I didn't face any problem.

Yeh its that two cables in one thing. It does have a funny name (probably cos the double barrels of a shotgun)

I guess I wont use that then.

Once I get some cable ill post an update.

Thats surprising at only 1.5m. Im sure I can squeeze a similar length out of my cable somehow but its quite tight already. Ill give it a go. Im not sure it will work on such a long cable though.

How long was your cable?

Can you not temp take your box to the dish, and hook up a short length just to test the motor (long mains extension lead)?

I did test it in the post a few posts above. It worked ok on the WF100 50m cable but not on the 30m RG6.

Its a cable problem because the VU outputs a weaker voltage than my other receivers.

The motor is ok. My motor is designed for up to a 1.2m dish so is power hungry.

had the same problem at the beginning.....
if you only use one dish, switch off the second one
in the menue...an the first will work perfect.
