External Hard Drive

Hi

I'd like to use an external hard drive for recording, how would i go about setting that up, i know you can do it internally and i've tried it too but i'd prefer using an external hard drive. I've tried connecting it but its not detecting it.

Also since you'll have to initialize and format the HDD to make it compatible with the 800 which makes it unusable on PC.Could i make a separate partition and use that for the 800?

Also i'm using Nabilo Blackhole 12, i don't mind switching to another image if its compatible with that.

Thanks

Your DM do not provide enough voltage for your external HDD you need to use an HUB USB2.
To initialize HDD and format on multiple partition use "MAGICPARTITION" you can find this application on the WEB for free.
Use meoboot plugin, upload from tunisiaaddons!

Have fun.

The main problem with external drive not working is the hardware of the enclosure is not recognized esata seems more compatible than usb and as kasiersat say any external drive you use should be powered by a power supply and not just the power of the USB socket.

Your lucky mate it has low power consumption, not all drives are equal.

I've also got a 1TB WD powered external hardrive, my 800 is the pro version. Will that work?

With partition magic i have to make two normal partitions and initialize one in the 800?

That will work but not if device manger does not see the drive in the first place.

I haven't tried my 1TB powered hardrive it was a different one i was trying will give it a go though.

Instead of partition magic if i use Ubuntu to make the ext3 partition it should be fine isn't it?
