DT sells broadcast subsidiary
Deutsche Telekom has sold its broadcast services subsidiary T-Systems Media & Broadcast to French broadcast services company TDF for EUR850 million. The transaction, which is subject to approval from the cartel authorities, should be finalised in the first quarter of 2008.
The company, with around 1,200 employees, operates the majority of Germany’s analogue and digital terrestrial TV and radio transmitters. Satellite distribution services are also offered. The company achieved a turnover of around EUR500 million in 2006, with profit estimated to be EUR100 million.
TDF is backed by financial investors Texas Pacific, Axa Private Equity and Charterhouse. According to industry sources, the only other contender in the final round of the takeover tender was Australia’s Macquarie Bank, which has acquired several broadcast technology service providers in the UK over previous months.
