Deutsche Telekom targets 3mn IPTV subs by end-2012

Deutsche Telekom has presented a new strategic plan, in which it reveals its aim to reach 2.5mn-3mn subscribers for its IPTV service 'T-Home Entertain' by the end of 2012, and go on to reach up to 5mn customers by the end of 2015, compared to the current total of 1mn packages sold (as of the end of 2009)

The telco adds that it expects its revenue mix to have changed substantially by 2015, with higher revenues being generated in new growth areas, and the company reportedly intends to leverage its investments in broadband infrastructure more effectively. Deutsche Telekom is aiming to connect up to 4mn German households with fibre-based broadband services by 2012, and will invest around €10bn between 2010 and 2012 in fibre optics, new mobile communications technologies and IT processes, to give customers more speed and new products. Investments are also planned in other European markets.

“The industry is changing and we are transforming Deutsche Telekom,” said CEO René Obermann at the presentation of the Group strategy 'Fix – Transform – Innovate' in Bonn on Wednesday. “Two things are important: a high-margin core business and the courage to focus on promising growth areas. Nowadays, promising strategies must have more than one focus. Our goal is to expand our important business with fast connections by adding a broad portfolio of IT and Internet services. This will ensure our long-term growth."

Also included in its plans are an increased in annual revenues from mobile data traffic from €4bn to around €6bn by 2012, and reaching around €10bn by 2015. The company also hopes
