hello guys,
i got selevision which is the beast and it has Western digital 80gb harddisk (WD800).my bother recorded some of his favorite shows and wanted those in his computer so he took off the harddisk from set-top box and ran it in Xp which didnt work (that's probably due to different file system) then after getting nothing he stupidly formatted the HDD in Fat32 with windows cd *that's what i told* of course after this step the HD showed up to XP but my receiver no longer detecting it...
well i consulted some of my friends nd browsed internet.i came to know that most of the receivers do support EXT3,i format my HD once again to EXT3 through the software called gparted but still my set-top box isn't detecting it
i tried several file sys like "FAT32,NTFS,EXT2,EXT3,EXT4 nd XFS" and non of them worked....
my receiver gives this kinda msg "(error hda);HDD is not mount"

help me folks!!!

You are right, it was posted in wrong forum. I've moved your thread here. Although I am not sure what selevision is. But if it is linux based you can try and telnet to it. And typing "fdisk -l" that should list the hard disk if it is recognized even if it is not mounted.
Then you can mount it manually or edit /etc/fstab file and reboot so it would be mounted on boot. Not sure what mount point should be used though on that device.
Maybe you should try emailing selevision technical support.

Check your instruction manual as it probably needs formatting correctly, check if you can do this with your receiver or if you have to do it in the computer.
From reading most hard drives require fat 32 instead of NTFS, which is probably what he used to format it the first time.

i checked every thing, they got nothing related to that in their manual.i am sure it's wasn't FAT32 or NTFS that's why it didn't detect by XP at the 1st place...
yeah my friend came over my house to chk it nd he got dreambox.he told me that your sys is similar to dreambox but unfortunately he's also noob like me so he couldn't help me either :mecry:

You can telnet to your box from windows command prompt by typing:
telnet boxip
You have to replace "boxip" with the actual ip of your stb.

Or you can use a tool like putty in which you choose telnet and enter box ip to connect to it.

i know nothing about your box but looking at your pics its a network prob

log into your router and see what the ip range is
ie 192.168 or 192.162
net mask is correct

on your reciever in network tick the DHCP box save and reboot that should give you your true ip

in network settings on a dreambox gateway and dns are the same ie 192.168.1.1

you may still need it connected to send commands to it.....???

at least you know now that the ip of the reciever should be 192.168.1.?

you could put an ip address in the DMZ ie 192.168.1.5 make sure its not a conflict with your pc or anything else.

then put the same ip in your network settings on your reciever save and it will always have that ip address.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it seems you managed to connect to your router, not your stb.
Maybe you could try using dhcp on your stb and then trying to telnet to ip it is assigned.
