Hello all, can anyone advise,is it worth getting this new fibre-optic cable for the sake of a twelve yard run,or am i just striving for perfection?

My opinion is there is no sense, because lenght is so short( only 11 meter if i made right conversion).
Also, you have to chance LNB+ install virtual converter as well and these cost few hundred Euros at least. Most likely if you do this change, you'll end up to have minor changes, but is it worth - it's a another question.
btw. There was some testing in Tele-Satellite mag. some time ago which might intrest you.

edited: gain of fibre LNB is a bit higher, which might help on weak transponders in case your dish is slight too small. How ever, it does not compensate under size dishes!

cheers!

We have just installed a fibre system to share a dish (single LNB) between 3 houses, which cost around £1000.
The advantage was that two hoses were around 100m away, so we were able to split the signal optical signal without any losses.
Each house has its own fibre link that carries all 4 signals (High, Low, H, V) and is then converted via a GTU (gateway termination unit) that can supply up to 4 boxes.
We now have the same signal strength in all 3 houses that we had previously in the house that was next to the dish with the std system.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that unless you wish to split the signal or you are 80m+ away there won't be any significant changes, however I do believe its the future
