Buying a dish in Spain

This is possibly quite specific for certain members of the forum, but does anybody have any recommendations where to buy reasonably priced satellite dishes (or to get them delivered) in the Gran Alacant/Santa Pola/Alicante area of Spain?

Looking to get around a 1-1.1m dish to pick up the FTA UK channels (including ones on the spotbeam) at my dad's property. I'm happy to install everything myself, but just looking at the pricing options, and if it's even worth it in the long term due to satellite TV gradually getting killed off.

In the past, I got a very weak signal on the BBC/Channel 4 TP's in the area, with an 80cm dish - so I think the upgrade to 1m+ would most likely worth it, without going crazy like 2m+

What specific fta channels are you hoping to get with 1.1 mtr dish?
One report says 110cm dish is just about getting bbc

Just the Freesat stuff really. The likes of BBC/ITV/Channel 4/Channel 5 etc. We've got the Spanish equivalent to Freeview through the aerial, which has some decent English content by changing the language on the audio settings, but it would good to get the PSB channels via satellite if possible.

I think 1.4 or bigger is best, especially now BBC and itv SD channels are going/gone, iptv will be better option maybe.
27w would ipof been good way but that package may be going on that satellite

Do you know of any companies that sell that size dish in/deliver to Spain? I looked at the World of Satellite forum sponsor, and it looks like the biggest size dish they do is 97cm

I'm not able to send PM to you and I don't know why.
I could suggest you a good dealer but not in this public thread because it would be out of the forum rules.

No problem. Yeah, I seem to have problems with PMs too. It's gonna be another few months before I'm back over there anyway - so no rush! I found a little electronics shop in Santa Pola, which may sell them. I've got their contact details, so will fire off an email to see what they can offer 🙂

Agreed, a little further south here but minium 1.4m needed or 1.8m gives a better chance in the notoriously hot summer when reception weakens, at the mo dB readings are near max for us with the U.K. beam. With the cessation of many SD channels many will struggle with the smaller size dishes. Your stated location has many U.K. year round residents so on your next visit perhaps a chat with them will help you to decide the best options. As many places, lots have opted for the IPTV legal/illegal install but for us here the direct sat feed HD quality is the def winner. Good luck with your install and loads of help here at SU if needed. (y)

Thanks for the extra info everybody. That's a good point about the DVB-S2 transponders. The last time I tried in Spain, lots of stuff would have just been DVB-S.

As manic01 suggested, 27.5w is something I was thinking of trying too, but I've never had any luck with getting the softcam.key or constant.cw files working with anything on that satellite. I only ever have any joy getting BISS feeds to work.
