To answer my own question
although i have not got it going yet it does appear possible to get bulsat 39e (irdeto2) with a softcam, in my case for the dm500
using the Fausto Programme
as per link below

I've tracked down a handy pdf on fausto and another good site, but dont want to breach the site rules, and I dont have the right to upload attachments

Reception fine here NW England, tested Diema & AXN Crime & FTA The Voice Bulgaria.
So please test FTA channel The Voice Bulgaria 12524H S/R 30000 FEC 7/8
If no signal for you - then why say KEY is DOWN?
KEY ISN'T DOWN - STILL WORKING FINE HERE @ 20:52 BST SERVICE KEY01 ACTIVE (WHICH SHOULD ALREADY BE INCLUDED IN ALL EMUS AS ITS ALREADY POSTED)
Key isn't down key is working fine here (NW England, No reception issues)

here reception is good too. it`s just the encrypion gone. all free to air channels working fine.

Yes have Encrypted channels (now with Diablo v2 Rev3.9 Only not Fausto/public EMU), following 20:55 BST key change, Service Key01(02): DFDD0...etc (keys are not to be posted outside keys sections) was active first so was ok for me (carry on viewing) until key chaged to new key03(06) (unknown) at 20:55

Yes changed 26.8.08 new key not posted until 28.8.08.
So 26/8 to 31/8 & 1/9.
6 days but normally last about 10 days, unless that assumption prev made is wrong (because looking at key thread it isn't always exactly 10 days is it?). Maybe 3-4 times a month would be better way to look at it????
