Assigning a Static IP vs Ip Assigned by Router

Hi, I've just recently purchased a Dreambox 800HD SE. Should I assign a static IP address to the dreambox or should I choose the option of having my router assign an IP to it? What is recommended? Thanks

Better to have a static on the DM. Then for ftp etc the IP remains the same.

Id set the static IP outside the DHCP range of your router to avoid possible conflicts.

Thanks "Ferret" for your reply. But won't assigning a static ip cause conflicts that can occur when the router assigns static allocation to other devices on the network(ie, multiple devices trying to claim the same IP)?

Hi mate

As i wrote above assign a IP to the DM outside of your routers DHCP range then the router can not assign the ip to anything else.

Makes total sense, mate. It didn't occur to me that assigning an ip address outside of the DHCP range of ip's would avoid ip conflicts with other devices. Thanks.
