Russia’s leading DTH platform Tricolor TV has begun regular broadcasting of a pilot Ultra HD channel.
Produced in cooperation with Eutelsat Communications – it is distributed by Eutelsat 36A/Eutelsat 36B – the channel is the first of its kind in the country and is being made available free of charge to all Tricolor TV customers.
Tricolor TV has played a pivotal role in making HD services, first introduced by the rival DTH platform NTV-Plus, a mass product in Russia and its HD offer is currently received in 4.2 million homes.
Alexei Karpov, the company’s director of sales and customers service, now forecasts that it will begin mass distribution of Ultra HD in spring 2015.
Tricolor TV carried out what was the first Ultra HD broadcast in Russia on June 27, 2013, in partnership with a number of companies including Eutelsat Communications, Ericsson, NPO SvyazProekt, Rohde & Schwarz, NPF Sfera-Video and LG Electronics.
