4:2:2 content crashing ViX and receiver

Hi all,

This is an annoying issue that I've had for a while, but am hoping to resolve it with your help. Usually at some stage when viewing a 4:2:2 feed, the receiver will just hang and display the rotating ViX logo in the top left corner. It's very inconsistent as to when it will crash, but normally within an hour or two of watching or recording the feed. From what I can tell, all 4:2:0 stuff works fine.

I'm currently using version 6.2.011 of ViX, but had the same issue on the old firmware. The only plugins I'm using are oscam-emu and oscam-stable.

I found a possible fix in another forum, where the user suggests FTPing a SatConfig.py file into /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Screens. Unfortunately, it seems that this file is no longer available to download and try. Does anybody have a copy, or something similar that will work?

It is not just 4:2:2 that does this with the spinning logo, I have seen it many times with the SF8008 and OpenVix on 4:2:0
The OpenViX forum is not much help either, they do not know how to resolve it.

Be interesting to see if the satconfig file fixes it.

Thank you for the help, guys.

I've downloaded the .py file that Ferret linked to and hope copied it over to the box in /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Screens

The user in the W-o-S forum was told NOT to rename to .py file, and that the box would create a .pyo file on reboot - however none of the files in that directory have a .pyo extention, and are only all .pyc ones. I noticed that even the original Satconfig.pyc didn't get modified on the reboot as it still had a date from 2022 listed in the directory (probably when i updated the firmware), so I guess that method didnt work.

I deleted the original Satconfig.pyc file and renamed my Satconfig.py file to replace it, but now I'm seeing the message
Some plugins are not available:
SystemPlugins/PositionerSetup (bad magic number in 'Screens.Satconfig': b'from')

and the box crashes when attempting to go into Setup - Tuners & Scanners - Tuner Setup. Aside from that, and the fact that the receiver's date thinks we're in 1971, I think everything else is functioning correctly, but I've only had a quick play.

Is there something that I'm missing where I can 'run' the Satconfig.py script? I see the GitHub .py file is from 5 years ago, so could that be outdated?

Ahh yeah that file is for py2 images not py3 as your now running.

So what you have read is out of date information as is the file.

I stop running Vix years ago for this issue.

The best image for me on SF8008 is the stock one openATV 6.4, when i updated to newer it made the box slower on viewing image, so i reinstalled the stock.

No serius crashes, some times glitches with logo spin and needs power off. Since it is a linux box and you might have already installed like me other apps, these apps might take a little bit of control of your box and cause crashes.

4:2:2 content works when streaming to VLC or similar.

Hope this helps

Ok, cool. That makes sense. I'm slowly getting closer. I've now found a more recent Satconfig.py file from a year ago. This one is now correctly modifying and updating the .pyc file after rebooting the box, however it is still causing a crash when going to Tuner Setup! I guess I could survive with just not going into the Tuner Setup for now, providing the other feed crashing issues are fixed (If indeed they are), but it would be a pain not being able to tweak my USALS settings when required. I'm guessing there's not another way at changing those. I attempted to open the .pyc file with Notepad, but it's mostly gibberish.

use other Image and your problem is gone
I've now updated to the MultiBoot Image thing, and have downloaded Openvix 6.4 rel 011 via the network update. (It wouldn't recognise the USB stick to do it that way, no matter how it was formatted). I've kept the old Image in an other slot as a backup, and also downloaded Openatv 7.3 which is says is a factory image.

I've been testing Openvix 6.4 for a few hours, and all seems good so far, fingers crossed! Even recording while streaming over the network to VLC hasn't killed it.

Thank you for the help, everyone! 🙂

Have the same issues with my Octagon sf8008 - OpenPLI image.
Sometimes when watching 4.2.2 feeds for over an hour the image freezes and the loading icon appears. The box becomes unresponsive and the only thing i can do is to cut the power cord.

That's the exact same issue that I had. I'd recommend giving the firmware I've just installed a try. Not sure if I'm allowed yo post the link on here, but if you search for "Openvix 6 4 011 Release Sf8008" you'll find it. I've had no issues with it from my testing so far. Left a 4:2:2 BISS feeds recording and streaming for a few hours earlier with no crash. I'd recommend following their tutorial very closely to save potentially bricking your box! Best of luck!
