Zon triple play starts to wane

Zon has said enthusiasm for its triple play packages is beginning to slow, though the Portuguese operator is still posting quarter-on-quarter increases, with 58.6% taking a TV, telephony and broadband package by the end of the first half of 2011.
A total of 678,500 customers are signed to triple play, cable customers subscribing to an average 2.31 services, an increase of 8.1% on 2010. Just 30% of the customer base subscribes to pay-TV packs alone.
Despite Portugal’s challenging economic environment growth of 2,300 customers took the installed base to 1,157,800.
Amid some pressure on premium TV subscriptions EBITDA was up 5.7% year-on-year to €158 million.
