German satellite broadcaster Sky Deutschland has retained its rights to the Uefa Champions League for the next cycle.

Sky Deutschland, which currently broadcasts the Champions League in Germany in tandem with free-to-air broadcaster ZDF, will show 146 live matches per season from 2015/16 to 2017/18, 128 of them exclusively.

The deal also includes the Uefa Super Cup, but not the Europa League, which was included in Sky Deutschland’s previous package.

Sky’s package also includes highlights rights.

The last deal was worth some €54 million annually to Uefa. Financial details of the new agreement have not yet been released, nor has the likely free-to-air broadcast element been confirmed.

“The Uefa Champions League is a source of great drama and incredible stories,” said Carsten Schmidt, chief officer sports, advertising sales and internet at Sky Deutschland.

“Memories of the final in Munich in 2012 and the German-German final in Wembley in 2013 continue to resonate with the football fans for months and years after the match. As the official TV partner in Germany, we are thrilled to continue sharing these stories on Sky.”
