WWE Network launches in UK
By Nik Roseveare

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has confirmed that the WWE Network will be available in the UK from November 3rd. The SVoD service, which is already available in the US, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Spain among others, will be available for free throughout November to all new subscribers.

Oddly, WWE has yet to announce what the subscription fee will be in UK sterling, simply stating that viewers will be charged $9.99 per month (roughly £6.20) with no commitments – meaning subscribers can close their account at any time. Users receive access to a huge library of classic matches and events, weekly live shows, exclusive original content, all PPV events and pre and post-match extras. The highlight of November will be the Survivor Series PPV on November 23rd.

WWE Network will be available on iPhone, iPad and Android devices through WWE.com. The Network will also be available on multiple streaming platforms including PlayStation 4 and 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Roku devices, and select Smart TVs.

There is currently no news on how the WWE Network will affect WWE’s deal with Sky. The UK broadcaster is currently offering the Survivor Series event on Sky Sports Box Office for £14.95 – more than double the cost of a month’s subscription to the WWE OTT service. Sky Sports has confirmed, however, that it will continue to broadcast WWE’s weekly flagship shows including RAW and Smackdown.

WWE ‘delays’ launch of OTT service in UK

November 4, 2014 09.10 Europe/London By Robert Briel

The launch of WWE Network in the UK has been delayed until further notice, the broadcaster announced.

“WWE would like to thank our fans in the United Kingdom for bearing with us,” the brief statement read on the WWE website.

The “wrestling mania” channel was expected to launch this October, and only last week Michael Weitz, SVP, Financial Planning and Investor Relations at WWE, said during an investors call that the service would launch this month.

“As far as the United Kingdom is concerned, we finally are going to make our move on that and the network will be available in November on an OTT basis in the United Kingdom,” Weitz said.

However, WWE decided at the very last moment to cancel the UK launch, presumably due to rights issues.
