whats the best most stable setup

I am struggling to get a stable setup.

9000hd 2 sat tuners, 500gb hdd on usb. (internal sata don't work)

I have tried the following.

Enigma in flash, 500gb partitioned - 512mb swap the rest ext2.
Enigma on HDD, 500gb partitioned - 1gb ext2 (with enigma2) the rest ext2

Eventually crossepg won't work and freeze the box or I will get green screens or it will freeze and need a restart every day.

I tried pkt, aff, indb, act, bmt, pgi.

The HDD was internal, I now have it external and I moved the fan and screwed it into the heatsink as I thought it was a heat issue.

When its working its a fantastic box.

The Fan is colling other components also on the board if you move it mite cause problems. the box is Designed to take the air from the front a bad design i know...

About your hdd what are you using to format it?
It,s best to use a DGS based image to setup the hdd before using it your main media partition should be sda2 and sad1 for swap.... some e2 images wont mount sda1 as swap.but use an image for swap.
The most stable image i have found is AAF Spring image.
The latest Git images are still a little unstable and need some tweeks to get things stable so mite not be for you..
The most stable new image is The latest PKT its stable other newer images basted on the New Git source are not as stable...

If you need any help setting things up then let me know...

Thanks for the reply mate. To setup the partitions I have pkt gold in flash and using telnet with fdisk and mkfs.

I currently have pkt gold in flash with sda1 512mb swap and main partition sda2 ext2.

Can you tell me how to auto mount both swap and sda2 on startup, I have edited the fstab file to mount both but it will only mount one.

Also is there a way to remove some of the plugins that come with the image it as I want crossepg without using most of the space that's left. I don't use YouTube ect...

with E2 on flash the fstab sometimes will not take effect as its on flash and a system file check to see if you have fstab in var/etc instead of /etc end try that...

anyway PKT images have a mount manager and is normally good with mounting sda1 as swap so editing fstab is not needed. On Pkt check in the blupanel there should be a mount manager and swap setup etc. there you can also check the swap from the panel...

You can also remove any addons you don't need via ftp just ftp into your box and go to /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions

You can remove anything you don't need...

Personally I would go with the SifTeam DGS (13791) image in flash. CrossEpg requires swap. I use swap on USB. This is really easy to set up using the SifTeam "green panel". This is steady as a rock on 28.2. Whilst I like the customization than E2 offers, I don't get the stability that I get from DGS.

@Carrpet do you know of any sly uk channel lists that have channel numbering like sly uk.
Keep meaning to set one up but to lazy lol...

Or is there a way to convert my e2 setting's to DGS?

Hi Jamie,

I don't have a Sky channel list with Sky numbering on DGS. I have however seen a sticky somewhere on how to covert E2 to DGS. I will look out for this for u m8.

This is very stable and I dont get the green screen and box crash issue with E2 images . Boot up is quick as well . I always go back to BMT images

It would be nice to have a sky channel number as on Sky but I creat a favourite channels list for what I want which is great for my needs . HD channels in one listsing and most common in anothere etc.

I have had 2 crashes with pkt gold in flash, both times green screen with transponder error then after reboot i get tune failed errors on all channels then had to start again.

im going to try daxv8 suggestion with bmt image.

hope it lasts longer.

Brian ,

Good luck with loading . You will have to change the language as the default is not English .Cams are preloaded just insert keys.

Well bmt seems to be quite solid so far but misses complaining about the setup as she is used to enigma2.

Just bought a vu+ duo so will be selling ipbox.

just discovered the instability issues were caused by the sata to usb cable i was using.

The sata to usb was putting the hdd in standby when it was not in use then it was not waking it back up.
