ARSENE WENGER shook hands with Champions League rival Alex Ferguson yesterday — then delivered a stark warning to the Manchester United boss.
The Arsenal chief and Fergie met before a double from Cesc Fabregas gave his team a 2-0 win against Middlesbrough — and a perfect lift ahead of Wednesday’s Euro semi-final at Old Trafford.
Wenger said: “What is important against United is that we are at our best. When we are at our best we can beat everybody.
“If you go to Old Trafford without belief you make it very difficult from the start for yourselves. We’ll go there with belief, with desire and with enjoyment. We will give absolutely everything to do it.
“We will be faithful to the game we play. We go, like we go everywhere in Europe, to score or win.” As for Fergie attending yesterday’s match, Wenger
added: “I thought he was coming to watch Middlesbrough!
“Or maybe because we have good red wine in the directors’ box.
“He will think this will be an exciting game between two teams that will try to play and who know each other well. The talent on the pitch always surprises you and I believe both teams will really go for it and it will be an exciting game.”
Arsenal coasted past Boro but were hit by yet another defensive blow as Mikael Silvestre was forced off after suffering back spasms.
Wenger added: “He’s 50-50 for the United game.”
