Shell shock: 'John' is given a graffiti-style urban revamp
These multi-coloured molluscs are the work of a London artist known as Slinkachu, who used the shells as his canvas for a series of designs dubbed 'Inner City Snail – a slow-moving street art project'.

No mention of modern street art can be made without reference, of course, to Bristol boy Banksy. And he doesn't limit himself to the walls and lamp-posts of Britain only, take note.

Banksy went all the way to Israel's controversial West Bank barrier in Abu Dis for this piece


And Banksy's not the only intrepid paint-wielding explorer - anti-war protesters scaled the tip of the Sydney Opera House's tallest sail to daub their message in blood-red letters.
