Virgin Media Business to assist with government PSN

Monday, November 29th 2010

The company is involved in a programme designed to help public sector bodies save money.
Virgin Media Business has revealed its fibre optic broadband infrastructure will help to power the government's Public Sector Network (PSN).

The PSN is a scheme designed to offer organisations access to voice and data services at cost-effective prices and is part of the coalition's attempts to trim costs, with the average department looking to cut its budget by 19 per cent over the next four years.

Programme director of the initiative John Stubley explained the business broadband firm has agreed to provide a network interconnection, which spans and connects the PSN.

Director of public sector at Virgin Media Business Lee Hull said: "ICT has the potential to enable the public sector to change and adapt to these conditions, both in terms of cost savings and in productivity."

The broadband company has previously agreed a number of deals with public bodies, including enabling NHS Norfolk and Norfolk Community Health and Care staff to conduct secure mobile and remote working.
