Viasat inks new accord with NBCUniversal for Russia, Ukraine & CIS
By Jamie Beach December 3rd, 2012

Viasat Broadcasting has signed a new multi-year licensing agreement for the pay-TV rights in Russia, Ukraine and the other CIS countries to first-run and library NBCUniversal films.

The content will be broadcast by Modern Times Group (owner of Viasat) on its TV1000 Premium HD and TV1000 Megahit HD premium movie channels across the region, and be made available as subscription video-on demand (SVOD) content on MTG’s Viaplay online pay-TV service in Russia.

NBCUniversal’s movie portfolio offers a wide range of recent hit theatrical releases including feature films such as ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’, ‘The Lorax’, ‘Safe House’, ‘The Bourne Legacy’ and ‘Ted’.

Modern Times Group’s operations span four continents and include free-TV, pay-TV, radio and content production businesses. It is also the largest shareholder in Russia’s leading independent TV broadcaster, CTC Media.
