This method is used to solve the box problems.
So do not worry.
Make a note of your box bootloader before using it.​

Many of us use DreamUP with the network option ticked i do often it will not harm your box providing you use a image that is correct for your sim type.

The most popular way of flashing though is via browser. Can you not flash via browser for some reason ?

Ofcourse you can just use the correct image and nothing can go wrong !

You would get the same speed via browser flashing though.
