UPC welcomes Slovak court decision
October 30, 2013 11.30 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

UPC Broadband Slovakia has welcomed a preliminary ruling by the Bratislava District Court in the dispute between the cable operator and Antik Telecom.

In it, the court says that UPC should allow its subscribers to use Antik set-top boxes on its network.

According to UPC, the decision sets an important precedent, as many operators do not allow the use of different receiving devices on their networks.

UPC also says it believes the court will ultimately take into account the final decision of the Telecom Office (TUSR), which said that although it was unable to make a ruling on the dispute, UPC did not violate the Electronic Communications Act.

Furthermore, UPC points out that the Council for Broadcasting and Retransmission (RVR) ruled that Antik does not provide TV services via IPTV but retransmission.

This, says UPC, is something that it had pointed out at the beginning of the dispute.

It adds that it “appreciates the opinions and decisions of the regulatory authorities, which confirm the correctness of our procedure.”
