UPC reveals Polish plans
07.24 Europe/London, October 5, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

UPC Polska will formally take over Aster’s operations in the first quarter of next year, according to Simon Boyd, the president of the Liberty Global-owned company.

Quoted in the local press, he added that following the merger UPC Polska would pass 2.5 million homes and have 1.5 million subscribers.

Boyd also revealed that the company plans to shortly start trialling internet access at speeds of up to 250 Mbps.

Furthermore, he refused to confirm or deny reports that UPC Polska is eyeing Multimedia Polska, Poland’s third largest cable operator.

Although the acquisition of Aster was announced in December 2010, it only received the green light from the competition authority UOKIK last month.

This came with a number of pre-conditions, including a requirement for UPC Polska to sell on some Aster assets to third parties not connected to the company.
