UPC Polska looks to Horizon

UPC Polska expects to launch Horizon sometime in 2013, according to Simon Boyd, the company’s CEO.

In a wide-ranging interview with Broadband TV News, he added that there would definitely be a market for the advanced set-top and multiscreen product in Poland.

“It will obviously depend on the pricing and positioning of the product compared to the current offering, and that is something we’re clearly working on this year in preparation.”

Commenting on UPC Polska’s strategy, he said that having acquired Aster, the country’s fourth largest operator, last year it continues to look for opportunities.

It will clearly consider Multimedia Polska if it comes on the market “and see whether it will make sense for us”.

Boyd also said that UPC Polska had no plans to offer its own 3D channels, though it does already distribute such services as Cyfra+ 3D.

It also expects that in the nearest timeframe 3D will be something that’s more in its VOD than rather than linear offering.

Boyd in addition said he expected competition in the Polish market to strengthen still further, with Zygmunt Solorz-Zak, for instance, becoming more of a competitive threat to UPC Polska as he develops his LTE plans following the recent acquisition of Polkomtel.
