UPC hit by Hungarian fine
July 8, 2013 09.24 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul

UPC Hungary has been fined HUF60 million (€202,272) by the regulator NMHH for trying to change the terms of its subscribers’ contracts.

According to the NMHH, the operator contacted its (approximately) 800,000 subscribers by letter, saying that it had terminated old contracts concluded orally or in writing and was at the same time introducing new ones with the same terms.

However, they ignored statutory provisions for the termination of contracts by mutual consent, which in the NMHH’s view was a serious violation of customers’ interests.

UPC Hungary has since said it will respect all existing contracts. At the same time, it may appeal the NMHH’s decision.
