UPC gains in Hungary
10.29 Europe/London, January 10, 2012 By Chris Dziadul

UPC ended 2011 on a strong note in Hungary, with its DTH platform UPC Direct gaining market share in the DTH sector and maintaining its market leadership in pay-TV as a whole.

Data produced by the regulator NMHH shows that as of December UPC Direct had a 22.5% share of the wireless (DTH and MMDS) sector, up from 22.2% a month earlier.

Top placed Digi claimed 41.0% (41.4%) and T-Home 29.1% (29%). UPC had a 26.1% share of the pay-TV market as a whole, unchanged on a month earlier, followed by Digi with 23.0% (23.0%) and T-Home with 22.2% (22.1%).

However, within the wired (cable and IPTV) sectors, UPC’s share of 27.6% was down from 27.8% a month earlier, while those of T-Home and Digi both rose slightly (from 19.2% to 19.3% and 15.3% to 15.4% respectively).

The total number of digital and IPTV subscriptions in Hungary stood at 676,610 in December, while the DTH and MMDS total amounted to 908,625.
