TV helps struggling Magyar Telekom
07.34 Europe/London, November 11, 2011 By Chris Dziadul

The performance of Magyar Telekom’s TV interests was one of the few bright spots in what was otherwise a challenging quarter for the Telekom-backed company.

Its latest set of results shows that it had 773,250 TV customers in its home market Hungary at the end of Q3, up 6.6% on the same period last year.

Its IPTV subscriber total grew most strongly year-to-year, up 86.5% to 191,230, with the DTH operation up by a more modest 14.1% to 270,291.

Cable, however, continued to decline, with the 311,729 total 19.2% down on a year earlier.

Blended ARPU rose by 3.6% to HUF3,060 (€9.82). Elsewhere, its IPTV operations in Macedonia and Montenegro had 35,409 (+51% year-on-year) and 44,911 (+28.2%) IPTV subscribers respectively in the third quarter.

Magyar Telekom’s total revenues in Q3 amounted to HUF152,120 million, down 1.7% on a year earlier. However those for its TV operations rose by 9.6% to HUF8,077 million.
