Turkey’s D-Smart seals WWE TV deal

20-05-2012

Digital broadcaster D-Smart is bringing WWE's weekly television programmes to Turkey after forging a two year TV distribution deal with the US-based wrestling entertainment company.

The hour-long international versions of WWE Raw and WWE SmackDown will now be offered on Saturday nights at 11pm and 12am on D-Smart's channel 77, Smart Spor.

"We're thrilled to announce this new partnership with D-Smart which is representative of WWE's plans in the region to expand the brand," said Ed Wells, senior vice president and managing director, WWE International.

"It's show time in Turkey for WWE fans," added Ali Güven, chief executive officer, D-Smart. "The vivid action of WWE has huge appeal with fans in Turkey and will add more value to D-Smart's rich array of content."

WWE 'superstars' and 'divas' featured in the programmes include John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk, Alberto Del Rio, Sheamus, and Layla.

Part of the Doğan TV Holding group, D-Smart now provides 1.7 million subscribers with 27 high definition (HD) TV channels and platform-specific thematic networks, as well as Turkey's public channels and hundreds of other local and international satellite channels carried on Turksat.

WWE programming, meanwhile, is now broadcast in over 145 countries and 30 languages, reaching more than 600 million homes worldwide.
