Transsexual wins right to woman's pension

LONDON, June 23 (UPI) -- A British court has awarded a transsexual the right to collect pension payments from age 60, the women's age, rather than the male pension age of 65.
Christine Timbrell, 68, born Christopher Timbrell, had been denied pension payments on the female schedule by the British government because she remained married to wife Joy Timbrell, 67, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday.
However, Timbrell, who said she refused to get a divorce for religious reasons, is now to receive five years' backdated payments from the Department for Work and Pensions as a result of a Tuesday ruling by the Civil Appeal Court.
The court ruled the government violated 60 European equality laws by denying Timbrell her rights as a woman.
