Tour of Beijing announces broadcast agreement

26 September 2011 | Posted in Broadcast, Cycling | By James Emmett
Organisers of the inaugural Tour of Beijing cycling race, a five-day UCI WorldTour event taking place from 5th to 9th October, have confirmed a raft of new broadcast agreements.
Beijing TV, the host broadcaster of the event, has already committed to show the race live across China. Having signed agreements with Global Cycling Promotions, the commercial arm of the UCI, Eurosport 2 will now do the same in Europe, Mnet/Supersport in Africa, Eurosport Asia Pacific and ESPN Star Sports across Asia, and Ten Sports in India.
The event will be broadcast via a live web stream on SBS Australia and live on Sky NZ.
As well as live coverage, the organisers will also produce daily highlights, news highlights and a one hour international highlights programme from each stage.
UCI President Pat McQuaid said he was pleased with the response from broadcasters outlining that: “interest from the broadcast community has far exceeded expectations and is an excellent indicator of the significant rise in the worldwide popularity of cycling. It also heralds a great future for the Tour of Beijing.”
“For an inaugural event to achieve such reach on its debut edition is outstanding, especially taking into account that the global television audience can be expected to continue to grow over the next four years.”
More broadcast agreements are expected to be announced in the coming days
