Germany: Satellite TV is increasing its share after analogue switch-off
Satellite TV continues to increase its share of the German market. The proportion of satellite TV is growing, even after analogue switch-off in April. He informed today about the Luxembourg satellite operator SES (Astra).
In mid-2012 acquired satellite television in Germany, 100,000 new households, and overall achieved in 17.6 million households.
Cable TV also reduces its market share in mid-2012 it benefited 17 million households. For comparison - in December 2011 was 17.3 million cable TV households in Germany. On the contrary, digital terrestrial (DVB-T) benefited from switching off analogue satellite broadcasting and making it 2,000,000 households (December 2011: 1.8 million households).
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) has increased its reach to 1.4 million households (December 2011: 1.3 million households).
The total number of TV households in Germany increased slightly to 38 million (December 2011: 37.9 million). High definition television (HDTV) is continuing its growth. Now watching HD broadcasts 7.2 million (41 percent) of all satellite households in Germany (December 2011: 5.9 million / 34 percent).
The data are based on the latest Satellite Monitor. The research was conducted by TNS Infratest on behalf of SES and in cooperation with broadcasting institutions of the federal states of Germany. TNS conducted in May 2012 a total of 8,000 interviews across Germany.
"These are excellent results, especially after the analogue switch-off. Satellite is in Germany, more popular than ever," said commercial director SES Ferdinand Kayser. According to him, customers appreciate the advantages of linear television satellite in combination with image quality and large selection of programs
