Tesco revamps its digital offerings around blinkbox
By Jamie Beach March 4th, 2013

UK groceries retailer Tesco has revamped its lineup of digital entertainment services, launching three new offerings focused on video, music and books, in addition to its existing over-the-top (OTT) video service ‘blinkbox’.

The company now has two video services: the existing transactional VOD service blinkbox, which it bought in 2011, and its new ‘Clubcard TV’ service, which offers free ad-supported access to TV and movies.

The other new services are ‘blinkboxbooks’, an eBooks service built from the assets of 2012 acquisition Mobcast, and ‘blnkboxmusic’, which has been developed after the 2012 purchase of WE7.

Both blinkboxbooks and blinkboxmusic will be launched later this year.

Tesco has made a number of appointments to steer these new services, including poaching Mark Bennett, head of digital services at rival Sainsbury’s, to lead blinkboxmusic.

Scott Deutrom, director of advertising at blinkbox, has been appointed MD of Clubcard TV, and Gavin Sathianathan joins from Facebook as MD of blinkboxbooks.
